A Manitoba-based underwater search and recovery team is heading to Okanagan Lake to assist the family of Kyle Yrjola, who has been missing since a paddleboarding incident on Sept. 22.
HEART Team Inc. says it is deploying specialized underwater search and recovery equipment at the request of Yrjola’s family.
Yrjola and a female companion were in distress on the lake between Fintry Provincial Park and Carr’s Landing. Emergency responders rescued the woman, but Yrjola could not be located.
Despite extensive search efforts by the RCMP and local search and rescue teams involving boats, aircraft and underwater resources, Yrjola remains missing.
“Our hope and prayer is that God will guide our efforts and allow us to bring Kyle home to his loved ones, giving them some measure of peace and closure during this heartbreaking time,” HEART Team said in a statement.
The organization is also asking for prayers for Yrjola’s family and for the safety of its team members as they travel to and work on the lake.
