Two separate fires burning on west side of lake

Quilpituk Creek Wildfire

Sunday 10:50 a.m.

BC Wildfire Service said the overnight growth on this fire was to the north and west. 

Crews have completed a sprinkler line set up along the powerline on the west flank. This morning they were continuing to establish hoselay for water delivery to the fire’s edge and conducting danger tree assessments and falling as they work their way around the fire perimeter.

A second wildfire started on the west side of Okanagan Lake in the early hours of Sunday. This is in addition to the one burning near Bear Creek Provincial Park.

BC Wildfire personnel and North Westside Fire Department were responding to this incident along with a night vision helicopter and a belly tank capable helicopter.

The 40-hectare blaze sparked just before midnight at the Quilpituk Creek area, forcing the evacuation of properties in the area north of Nahun and south of La Casa. 

Several more are on evacuation alert.

Blue Grouse Creek Wildfire

Sunday 10:50 a.m.

With consultation with BC Wildfire, the Evacuation Alert for households in the area of Bear Creek Main has now been lifted.

No growth occurred on this incident overnight. The fire is currently exhibiting primarily Rank 1 fire behaviour meaning a smouldering ground fire with no open flame, white smoke and slow rate of spread. More information on fire behaviour and rank can be found here.

This morning crews will be conducting danger tree assessments and falling work to support extending hoselay for water delivery to hotspots within the fire perimeter and along the fires edge.

Sunday 8.a.m

Meanwhile, the wildfire burning near the Bear Creek Provincial park to the northeast of West Kelowna was measured at 20-hectares and considered to be smouldering Saturday night.

There are evacuation alerts in effect for this wildfire.
