Kelowna RCMP investigating suspected arson

Kelowna RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a series of suspicious fires believed to have been intentionally set in Gopher Creek Linear Park.

Police say several small fires were discovered in the Black Mountain area on Aug. 5 at about 5:30 p.m.

Park users and nearby residents spotted the fires and were able to extinguish them before contacting the Kelowna Fire Department.

The Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Support Team is now investigating and is looking for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the park or surrounding areas, including Gallagher Road and Lynrick Road, during the afternoon of Aug. 5.

Investigators are also asking drivers who travelled through the area between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to check dash camera footage for anything that could help identify those responsible.
