Ron Cannan will not seek a recount after narrowly losing Kelowna’s mayoral election to Tom Dyas Saturday.
Communications point person Alli McNeill confirmed the decision in an email to Vernon Matters, saying Cannan’s main concern was the time it took for election results to come in from polling stations.
“He felt that the only thing that was a challenge, was the length of time it took to get the results from the polls in Kelowna as he stated that night,” McNeill wrote.
Cannan lost the Oct. 17 election by 969 votes, according to unofficial results.
The campaign had previously raised concerns about the election process, including delays in receiving results. However, it will not pursue a recount.
McNeill said Cannan plans to remain involved in the community.
“He is deciding on his next step locally and will definitely be continuing to give back to our community.”
